[edit] Introduction
The Centre for Timber Engineering (CTE) is based at Napier University, Edinburgh, Scotland and is an independent research unit linked to the School of Engineering and the Built Environment. It is the only centre of its kind within the United Kingdom, providing research, consultancy, information, education and training related to timber in construction.
Its activity ranges from fundamental research into wood properties at all scales to in-company innovation and technology transfer. It is also active in the area of e-learning for blended and distance learning.
It was established in January 2002 following the result of a feasibility study carried out by The Scottish Forest Industries Cluster: a partnership between Forest Industries Development Council (now part of ConFor) and Scottish Enterprise.
The CTE is the creator of 'Timber Trumps', a popular online game with rules similar to Top Trumps.
