Cedille Records

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cedille Records is the independent record label of The Chicago Classical Recording Foundation — a foundation dedicated to preserving Chicago’s rich musical heritage by documenting the work of its finest musicians, ensembles, and composers. As commercial recording companies have pulled back from the classical marketplace, many classical artists have been left without a voice in the recording industry. The Foundation serves as an advocate for musicians, ensembles, and composers seeking to make an impact and career in the classical music world. Cedille's catalog of recordings demonstrates its ardent support for the contributions of women and minorities in classical music. Cedille Records provides an essential link between some of Chicago’s finest musicians and composers and music-loving audiences around the world. Additionally, the Foundation works with local music schools and libraries and sponsors concert events to provide greater community access to the work of Chicago’s classical musicians.

Cedille Records was founded in 1989 by James Ginsburg, then a law student at the University of Chicago. (Ginsburg is the son of Martin D. Ginsburg, law professor at Georgetown University and Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.)
