[edit] Use
A generic template, placed into any category page that includes (categorized) images. For the tightest fit at the top of the category, arrange templates in the following order:
{{commons}}
Description
{{catmore}}{{catphoto}}
{{CategoryTOC}}
Category tags
- Positioned below the optional {{commons}} or {{commonscat}} tag at the top of the category page. Check to make sure there really is a page on the Commons, as links to another namespace appear active (blue).
- Positioned below the required brief description of the category
- If you choose to include the optional {{catmore}} or {{catmore2}} tag (for instance, when the description does not have a link to the main article):
- Position {{catphoto}} directly after {{catmore}} to save space (by avoiding a linefeed)
- Positioned above the optional {{CategoryTOC}}, if included
- Positioned above the required category tags at the bottom of the edit page

[edit] History
- Created in response to a discussion on Wikipedia_talk:Categorization#Images_in_categories (March 2006) about the use of images in a category page and the possible confusion for novice users who click on the category thumbnail images - expecting to see an article, but instead getting the often minimal description documented in the Image: file.
- Added capability to use PAGENAME and added documentation
