[edit] About the School
Catonsville High School is located on 421 Bloomsbury Avenue with a "Catonsville, Maryland" mailing address. The school was named after the area of Catonsville.
The original school can trace its roots to Catonsville School which formed in 1903. Students were taught at the original brick building until 1910 when a large new school was dedicated to help with overcrowding. In 1925, Baltimore County purchased land and buildings from the Catonsville Country Club with the intention of converting it to the new high school.
In 1954, a new building was dedicated at the school's present location. The school benefited form a 77,000 square foot expansion in 1999. There have been other upgrades and renovations to many of the other structures to keep the building as modern as possible.[1]
In 1936 and 1937, under the council of future Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, the NAACP unsuccessfully attempted to racially integrate the students at the high school.[2]
