Cathie Wright

Cathy Wright is a Republican politician from California. She served in the California State Assembly from 1982 until 1992 and in the California State Senate from 1992 until 2000. She represented portions of Los Angeles's San Fernando Valley as well as Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks.

After serving a decade in the state Assembly, Wright decided to run for the state Senate seat of retiring Republican stalwart Edward M. Davis. Ed Davis didn't much like Wright (whom he dubbed "The Peroxide Princess of Simi Valley") and recruited former Assemblywoman Marion LaFollette to run for the seat as well. After a bitter campaign, Wright prevailed, but just barely.

In 1994 she became the Republican nominee for Lt. Governor by defeating moderate Assemblyman Stan Staham in the party's primary. Statham was best known for a proposal to split California into three states. Wright beat him handily but was soundly defeated by then Democratic state Controller Gray Davis.

California state Term Limits forced her from office in 2000.
