Recommended option is Template:Location map because:

• it allows easy resizing of the map;
• it can be framed and captioned or included in an infobox;
• it allows easy tweaking of the label's position, size, background etc;
• the marker location doesn't change as text is resized (unlike some other methods);
• it can be incorporated into the infobox so a map displays just by specifying lat/long --- see e.g. Template:Infobox UK place.

For some reason this seems to break the transparency of the floated image (Image:Blue_pog.svg), at least in Firefox.
