There are some mistakes in this article beginning with the academic titles of Mr. Thiede. He was not a "Dr." and not a "Prof." in the official use in Germany, his only academic title was "magister artium".

His datig of the Magdalen-Papyrus has been rejected by almost all papyrologists and philologists, no matter wether they are christians, evangelicans, atheists or what ever.

His publications concerning 7Q5 are criticised and the thesis is shared by almost nobody. This has nothing to do with "mainstream". Serios scientists cannot accept the "junk scholarship" (Hershel Shanks, editor of "Biblical Archaeology Review") by C. P. Thiede in papyrological matters.

Sorry for my poor english

I must correct you. He did in fact have thet title of a Professor, as well as OCF, MA, and KnStJ. That his Theories were rejected by almost all papyrologists is incorrect, in fact they were widely popular and agreed upon (especially among historians).

The difference in tone and content of the english and german versions of the respective articles on Mr. Thiede in Wikipedia is most remarkable. Either there are two different persons of the same name or Germans are unable to discuss these matters without vitriol.

I don't know who corrected this article on my father, but it's the best one I have found so far. Thank you!

You are most welcome. I plan to do more in the weeks and months to come. Your father's life work was so important to our understanding of the history of our civilizational origins and beliefs. I am deeply sorry for your loss, and our own, due to his sudden passing from the earth. God bless you and your family. Tiamut 14:14, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

The problem with this article is it contains no citations only assertions. I would draw attention to this (http://www.depts.drew.edu/jhc/theide.html) review of Thiede which is in fact critical of his conclusions. I think his position is certainly more contested in main-stream Biblical scholarship than this article conveys.

[edit] Order of St John - a query

Is anyone able to clarify whether this bible scholar was a Knight of the Venerable Order of St John (the British Order]], the Order of St. John (Protestant Continental Europe) (the European Protestant one), or the Sovereign Military Order of Malta (the Catholic Order of St John)? I am trying to sort out the dismabiguation links to 'Order of St John' and I cannot discover from the article itself which of the Orders he was part of...Abbeybufo (talkcontribs) 14:00, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
