I guess the point is that sports fans might consider the "sporting news challenged" and foreigners who never heard of the NBA. There is a lot of special terminology in many sports entries - somebody should fix up a glossary, including "spot" as in "to spot the ball" and to "snap the ball", "foul tip" etc. I think I know "slam dunk" but a person in a rather different culture might not.
