I have just reverted an edit which had changed nationality from American to Spannish. From everything I have read it would seem she was American but as I havent seen anything conclusive don't know if we can find a source which makes it explicitly clear. --Amxitsa 18:29, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
She was a spanish gypsy. Do a google search for carmencita edison spanish; the first hit or so will be a page talking about paintings of carmencita and it says she was spanish gypsy.
