Talk:Carantanians

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dear 194.249.36.106, the "barbaric state" simply means a state other than Roman Empire or a new state established after the fall of the Empire, not "underdevelop", "cruel" etc.!

Are caranthanians called themselves as 'caranthanians'? If called, how name 'slovenian' survived?

Slovenians could have called there self Caranthanians if they wanted and maybe it would even be more suitable, becouse this way they wouldnt be mistakend for Slovakia. But the truth is that Slovenians in the Austro-Hungarian Empire didnt even have a name for them selfs. They just saw that they were unified by there languege. The term Slovenian was first used in a local newspaper I think, and the name stuck. So to answear your questions the term did not survive it was created a new.

Hope I answeared your question.

[edit] "Alpine Slavs"?

This is a peyorative way to call old slovenians. I think it offensive and following old pangermanistics ideas. If not, let´s call bavarians as "pre alpine Germans". I prefer to call things by their name. About the authors mentioned by Jalen they are known for beings nostalgic of Yugoslavia, I mean paslavic ideology.--Marcos G.
