English translation

Congratulations for the release of the Go Rin No Sho (book of five rings). With great joy I received the news if the publishing of the Go Rin No Sho, The Book of Five Rings, from Miyamoto Musashi. In it’s first version in Portuguese under the supervision of Mr. Jorge Kishikawa, who asked me a few lines as a presentation. I accepted the assignment, even not been used to to this.

according what I have been told, the Kishikawa family came from the Saga county. And talking about Saga, this county constituted, during the Tokugawa period (1603-1867) the Nabeshisha feud. And in this land was born the so called Nabeshima Rongo or Hagakure, famous by it’s opening phrase: “I discovered that the meaning of been a Samurai is found in death”, referring to the usual form of the Samurai spirit. So, this family descends of the famous Hagakure Samurai.

In fact, Mr Kishikawa’s will in his search for the spirit of the Japanese Bushido can even surpass the japanese then selfs. Besides holder of Kendo 7th Dan, Kishikawa diversified his knowledge int the Martial Arts, having trained the jodô style Shindo Muso ryu, that is part of Kobudô, as well as the Iai of the Suio Ryu. In the school Niten Ichi Ryu, developed by Miyamoto Musashi, Kishikawa holds Menkyo Kaiden (1). His enthusiasm and dedication to the training are rarely achieved by normal people. With this enthusiasm he quickly improved himself in his art, reaching the certificate of the ultimate level, the Menkyo Kaiden.

Specifically, the Niten Ichi Ryu style demands to learn twelve katas in the Ittô Seiho (sword), seven in the Kodachi Seiho (short sword) and five in the Nito Seiho (two swords). The training continues, with more seven staff techniques and thirteen techniques of staff against sword. Many days of training and a uncommon effort are need to assimilate this all. Mr. Jorge Kishikawa reached this level with the Hagakure spirit. I much appreciate his great dedication to the training, to the point of putting his own life at risk. I wish that this Book of Five Ring in the brazilian version act like a spark to the development of Bushido in Brazil, contributing to the well-being of the humanity
