Carter McKay

Carter McKay, was a character that appeared in the later seasons of the popular American television series Dallas, played by George Kennedy (1988-1991).
In 1988, Carter comes to Dallas and buys the ranch adjacent to Southfork Ranch, which was once owned by Ray Krebbs, thus, making him a neighbor to the Ewings. Carter thereafter starts a range war with the Ewings in an attempt to get control of Section 40 of Southfork, an oil rich piece of land. It is soon discovered that Weststar Oil CEO Jeremy Wendell is the real mastermind behind the range war and Carter is just his pawn. After Wendell is arrested, Carter becomes the new head of WestStar Oil and the latest adversary of J.R. Ewing.
Shortly before the series ended in 1991, McKay managed to trick J.R. into signing Ewing Oil over to Cliff Barnes, with J.R. believing that he would become Weststar Chairman. When it is revealed that McKay set him up, J.R. almost commits suicide.
In 1996 following a failed merger with Ewing Oil, McKay is ousted at Weststar by J.R. Two years later, McKay fails to become part of Ewing Oil with Bobby and Sue Ellen and also unwittingly buys back the Krebbs ranch for $50 million, despite it being worth only $10 million. McKay didn't realise until buying the ranch that the crude oil on the land he wanted to drill on for profit was worthless as it was Southfork lands and as a result of McKay not being a Ewing, he couldn't drill oil on Southfork.
