Carsten Ball was born in Newport Beach, California, USA, his father Syd Ball was also a tennis player. Unlike most tennis players Ball began playing ITF Future Tournaments at the age of 13, 2 years before he began playing Junior tennis events. Unlike Taylor Dent who was also born in USA to a former Australian tennis player (Phil Dent), Carsten decided to keep his allegance with Australia.
To date Ball has two future titles to his credit, his most successful tournament was at the Tunica Resorts Challenger in May 2008 where, as a qualifier, he reached the final.
