[edit] Music career
In 1995, Carryl was the "face" for "Jinny" for hit singles “Keep Warm” & “Wanna B with U“ which reached No.11, and No.30 in UK singles chart, selling over 100,000 copies. Carryl also made a TV appearance on TOTP on 13.7.1995 as Jinny, and Keep Warm was included on the Now That's What I Call Music! (CD Series) — Now, Vol. 31 (UK) CD. However, Carryl has been accused on several internet sites of not actually singing on the records.
Carryl also appears in a video for a group called Black Duck where she "sings" but the voice is different from the singer Jinny.
[edit] Jinny Confusion
There's been some on-going internet debate, on just who IS the singer "Jinny". It's been suggested that there are at least 5 people that claim to be "Jinny". The single "Keep Warm" features mainly male vocals, the rest of the track being samples from the 1987 "Voices In The Dark- Keep It Warm" making it almost certain that none of the claims are genuine. The Jinny Keep warm version was originally released in 1991 by Janine Brown, who appeared on covers and PR photos. Then the single was re-released (unchanged) in 1995, when Carryl Varley featured on new CD covers and made TV appearances. Jinny also released 7-8 other tracks in other countries with performers unassociated with Carryl. Since then, in other countries there were other "Jinny" singers including an Asian one for some of the Asian countries.
the original "jinny - keep it warm" was an italian house track released in 1991 on ZYX records..so even though carryl varley may have fronted a group called jinny in 1995 it is very unlikely..as this jinny has been recording music 4 years longer
The original Jinny - Keep It Warm, was written by Alessandro Gilardi, Claudio Varola, Federico Di Bonaventura & Walter Cremonini http://www.discogs.com/artist/Jinny
Pop unlimited website (see references) has suggested that the songs are by Sandra Chambers or Jenny Bursola.
[edit] Black Duck
Carryl also appears in a promo video appearing to sing as Black Duck (group). The voice also sounds different from Jinny.
