Unlike their competitors, all of Carollo's work is in the water and wastwater engineering market, with such subsectors as: water and wastewater planning; water and wastewater treatment; biosolids management; water recycling, reclamation, and reuse; water and wastewater infrastructure; CSO-SSO and storm water services; applied research; construction management; and sustainable design, among others.

Carollo Engineers was founded in 1933 as a new partnership called Headman, Ferguson, and Carollo. In 1957 the firm became John A. Carollo, Consulting Engineers. The corporation's name was later changed to Carollo Engineers. In early 2007, the Carollo Engineers drafted a new logo. The new logo reaffirms Carollo's dedication to the water industry with the Trademarked tag line "Engineers... Working Wonders With Water"
