Carl Heastie

Carl Heastie is an African American member of the New York State Assembly for the 83rd district first elected in 2000. He is a Democrat, though is known to be more conservative than his colleagues on a number of social issues. Since taking office, Assemblyman Heastie became one of the lead negotiators for the construction of a new K-8 school in his district. To add to his list of accomplishments, Assemblyman Heastie has sponsored legislation to require mandatory reporting of alleged child abuse of students in New York City.
