Carbondale, Pa UFO

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

— On the night of November 9, 1974 a small group of teenage boys reported seeing a red/yellow swirling light fly across the sky over Salem Mountain, and into a pond behind Russell Park. However, these boys were not the only ones to report on the incident. Everyone from Carbondale residents to bikers on the interstate reported seeing the same light in the sky that evening. A crowd of spectators quickly filled the area, eager to see if the light emerging from the waters, which remained lit for nine hours, was truly a UFO. Carbondale police kept tight security around the area, allowing no media near the pond. Two days later the mayor of Carbondale made a statement claiming a scuba diver had dove into the pond retrieving a railroad lantern, which was the cause of the light. Though eyewitness accounts tell quite different stories. Many of those who were there that evening claim they saw a large object on the back of a military vehicle covered with a tarp, and the lantern was a cover-up. To this day you will find very mixed feeling on what happened on that late November night. Whether a real UFO made its way to a small northeastern Pa city, or it was really a hoax formulated by bored children is for you to decide.
