Talk:Capacitor discharge ignition

I looked at this page, hoping that I would find a typical schematic, but alas none.
Schematics are plentiful available on the net. But this page has some serious mistakes which need to be corrected —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 84.142.218.202 (talk) 10:03, August 23, 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Mistakes?
But this page has some serious mistakes which need to be corrected
I ask: What mistakes? --DaveDodgy (talk) 17:35, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] What are the disadvantages?
The heading called Advantages & Disadvantages of CDI only states the advantages, AFAICS. Any bad points of note about CDIs ? --DaveDodgy (talk) 17:39, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Potted or standard
My motorbike's CDI unit is by Shindengen. They potted the whole circuit in hard black rubber. I've been picking away at it, and nearly exposed the whole SMD circuit! Can someone add to the article the popularity of potting these types of circuits, vs just encasing them in a plastic or metal box ? Also, would overheating be a problem ? There are 10's of 1000's of these units made, how do they avoid it ? Heat conductive rubber? Overspec'd semiconductors, so they don't overheat, with ZERO airflow to cool them!? --DaveDodgy (talk) 17:39, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Open source as an alternative to expensive OEM CDIs
The circuit diagram for an open source CDI looks nice, but could it replace my current one? Will fuel efficiency go up/down? Will top speed go up/down ? Could it potentially damage the pulse sensor in my engine ?
