Captain Teague is the father of Captain Jack Sparrow. Not much is known about him other than he may have been born in British Colonial India, the same as Jack, and may have even been employed by the East India Trading Company. Captain Teague was once the Pirate Lord of Madagascar but resigned to become the Keeper of the Code. He firmly believes the Pirate Code is law and will shoot any man who says otherwise. He appears to be very well feared, if not respected, amongst the Pirate Lords, as they all immediately fall silent when his name is called to bring forth the Code (as well as when he shoots a pirate who disagrees with the code). He can silence all of them with a mere glare. The New Visual guide states that he is the Keeper of the Code and it may only be summoned when a Pirate Lord demands it. He looks similar to his son, complete with dreadlocks and an ambiguous facial expression, suggesting that he too likes to drink rum as much as Jack.

After presenting the Pirate Code he sits down, seemingly bored, and starts playing the guitar (a reference to his portrayer Keith Richards). After the meeting of the Brethren Court, Jack takes Teague aside and after asking him about his mother, reveals that Teague is his father. Teague reveals to Jack that his mother is, currently, a shrunken head. Jack, upon discovering this, says nervously, "She looks great!". Teague also warns Jack about the search for immortality and that living forever is a curse if one is lonely. This may suggest that Teague is both lonely and immortal. And despite his gruff demeanor, Teague often affectionally calls his son 'Jackie'.

After the victory against the Dutchman and the Endeavour, the Pirate Lords and their crews throw off their hats as they cheer. Captain Teague is seen one last time throwing his hat to Jack.

His crew also seems to be comprised of old pirates. This is shown when two ancient pirates bring him the Pirate Codex, and when he throws his hat to Jack.

Captain Teague also seems to be the new owner of the Jailhouse Dog, who (in Dead Man's Chest) was last seen on Pelegosto island, being worshipped as a god and about to devoured by the natives. Teague says that the dog escaped by using "Sea turtles, mate". "Sea Turtles" being a reference to when Jack escaped the desert island in the first film (which he didn't escape by seaturtles but by rum smugglers).
