Capital punishment in Ecuador

According to the Código Penal de la Republica del Ecuador, the only crime for which Capital Punishment is currently the sentence is piracy on the high seas.

All other criminal offences, including murder, are punishable by lengthy terms of incarceration and heavy fines.
