Capaq Ñan trail

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Capaq Ñan trails system is a project designed cooperatively by the governments of Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Chile to rebuild and promote tourism on the Inca road system that stretch across the Andes. The name translates roughly as "road of our ancestors" nan being the Quechua word for road, Capaq being the "original ancestor" of the Incan Empire. The project consists of two main roads, one roughly following the Andean Divide and one following the eastern flank of the Andes, with several smaller roads crossing between them that would lead through important archaeological sites.
