Cap nut

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A cap nut, or acorn nut, is a nut that is closed on one end and resembles an acorn. By tightening against the end of the bolt, it avoids compression of the part being fastened, and is commonly used to fasten parts that must be able to spin freely. It may also be used to cover the end of the bolt, either to prevent contact with the potentially damaging tip or for esthetics.
