I dated a Candy in my youth in Modesto California. She claimed, and I believed her, that the song was written specifically for her by a musician whom she befriended when she had a cast on her broken leg and had to sit on the bandstand rather than dance. This musisican according to her was going thru a divorce and after writing the song he sold it for $50.00, supposedly to Dick Haymes.
