I have asked on the Lucha Libre page whether it developed out of Lucha Canaria, as the Guanches (Native Canarians) were fighting Lucha Canaria before Columbus left for America, and he, and many following expeditions, left from the Canary Islands Arjayay 17:16, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
