TV.com summary

Canada's Next Top Model (also abbreviated as CNTM) is a Canadian reality show in which ten women compete to win a variety of prizes. The aspiring models are taught the ins and outs of the modeling world as they compete for the grand prize of being Canada's Next Top Model. The winner walks away with a modeling contract from Sutherland Models, a $100,000 beauty contract from Procter & Gamble (makers of Olay, Pantene, Nice 'n Easy, and CoverGirl), and an editorial spread in Fashion.

The show airs every Wednesday at 8/7c on Citytv. A rerun is also broadcast every Tuesday at 8/7c on A-Channel. It also airs on Living in the United Kingdom on Wednesdays at 8 p.m.

Canada’s Next Top Model is co-produced by Temple Street Productions and The May Street Group, in association with CHUM Television and CBS Paramount International TV.

Cycle 1, which aired from May 31 to July 19, 2006, was hosted by Canadian supermodel and actress Tricia Helfer.

Cycle 2 aired from May 30, 2007 to July 18, 2007. Helfer did not return to host the show, instead choosing to pursue her acting career. She was replaced by Jay Manuel, a Canadian who is a creative director on parent series America's Next Top Model.

Cycle 3 will air on A-Channel (to be rebranded as A), but due to CTVglobemedia's buyout of CHUM Limited, not on Citytv.

[edit] The challenge

The challenge usually focuses on an element important to modeling. For example, in the first episode of Cycle 1, the girls were asked to show Jay Manuel their runway walk. A guest judge, who is unique to each episode, evaluates the contestants and decides the winner of the challenge, who receives a prize for her victory. The winner is then permitted to allow a certain number of other contestants to receive a similar, but lesser, reward, while the others are given nothing. For example, Heather, who won the challenge in Episode 1 of Cycle 1, was given first choice of the rooms in their house. Heather then chose Andrea to share in the prize with her.

[edit] The judging and elimination

At the end of each CNTM Cycle 1 episode, the girls were critiqued by a panel of judges consisting of Tricia Helfer, Jeanne Beker, Paul Venoit, Stacey McKenzie and the episode's guest judge. For Cycle 2, the judges were Jeanne Beker, Yasmin Warsame, Jay Manuel, Paul Alexander, Nolé Marin, and Stacey McKenzie, who returned as the girls' model coach. Based upon the girls' performance in the week's challenge, photoshoot, and general attitude, the judges deliberate and decide which girl must leave the competition. Once the judges have made their decision, the girls are called back into the room. The host calls out the names of the girls who performed well in the challenge and photoshoot, giving them a copy of their best photo from the shoot. The last two girls, whose names have not been called, are said to be in the "bottom two". Both girls are given constructive criticism, and one is eliminated. The person who is eliminated does not receive a photo.
