Talk:Campus fire safety

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This page will be a detailed study of the complex issues surrounding campus fire safety. It will include an overview of the problem with detailed statistics; real-world case studies; solutions that can be implemented; local and Federal legislation that is being proposed.

This article will discuss not only the building features, but will cover, in detail, education and training that can be employed to better prepare the students to be fire safe, not only while they are in school but for the years after they graduate.

The existing section Fire Safety which is a component under Building Code is far too restrictive since much of this article, and indeed fire safety, goes beyond codes and into education and training of the occupants. For that reason, Campus Fire Safety is not limited solely to codes. --Edcomeau 05:37, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Cleanup

Edcomeau, this article has been tagged several times since April 2007 for Cleanup, but you have removed the tags prior any changes to the article. Please do not remove Maintenance tags placed by another editor until the Cleanup that has been requested has been accomplished, as determined through consensus.

After a brief review, I notice several issues that should be changed to conform to WP guidelines, including Article size, and it may contain too much detail on one specific area of its subject.

As a related issue, text that has directly copied from copyrighted material ([www.campus-firewatch.com/resources/fatal%20firelog%20compilation.pdf]) should be deleted.

None of this implies the article is wrong, but the tag helps adminstrators keep track of articles that other editors may want to help with.

Now that I've looked it bit more, this article is a kind of mirror to the www.campus-firewatch.com webpage, of which Edcomeau is the owner. There is good stuff here, but it's not written in WP style and purpose. Please see Wikipedia is not a manual, guidebook, or textbook. Fireproeng 05:38, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your note. As a new person, I'm making (I am sure) the mistakes that thousands before me have made and failing to learn from them! I am looking at moving this over to Wikibooks as that seems to be the more appropriate home. Also, in regards to the copyright issue, I'm the original author of the material that I posted and wanted to maintain the copyright on it...I'm making it available, but I just want to continue to hold the legal rights. Thank you for your comments! Edcomeau (talk) 09:10, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

I think you're right about Wikibooks, Ed. Then again, this could be a good article in Wikipedia with some paring. Thanks for mentioning the copyright, I should have realized after I looked at your website - nice work. Let me know what you want to do with this page. Fireproeng (talk) 13:57, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
The page has been imported to Wikibooks (here)). Mattb112885 (talk) 17:04, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
