[edit] Should Pigin English be merged into this article?
Shold the article Pigin English be merged into this article? Or perhaps Pigin English should just be deleted? Cardamon 07:44, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
- No, Pigin English is talking about Entlish pidgin languages throughout Africa. Cameroonian Pidgin English is but one example of a broader category. Instead, I've proposed that Pigin English be merged into Pidgin. See Talk:Pidgin for details. — BrianSmithson 08:13, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
- I'm not sure what to do with it. When I previously proposed that, the only response I got at Talk:Pidgin#Suggest merging Pigin English into Pidgin was negative. So I decided to try this, since the page had more content specific to Cameroon than to any other single country. Hmmm, I see there is more discussion there now. User:Bikeable's idea of an article on West African Pidgin English sounds like a good thing for someone other than me to write. Cardamon 09:01, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
- Just coming across this now. The Pidgin article appears to deal with the general linguistic category, and as such would IMO best stay as is. WRT the English Pidgins, a good case could be made to organize them better. A case could be made to merge the Cameroonian and Nigerian Pidgin articles if they are close enough to consider together as West African Pidgin English (with ref to any differences, of course in the new article). This is commonly the case with the vast majority of crossborder African languages - you don't have separate articles for Hausa in Nigeria, Niger and Ghana for instance. I'm not familiar enough with the pidgin category to say much about English pidgins more generally and whether we might possibly be looking at 3 levels of articles: 1) pidgin in general; 2) English pidgins worldwide; 3) West African pidgin, or specifically Nigerian & Cameroonian pidgins. --A12n 20:47, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

- I would say that all the Pidgin English articles should be combined under the single 'Pidgin English' header. It should remain separate from the 'Pidgin' article as it does not refer directly to the same thing. It's easier for someone searching for one or the other if they don't have to wade through material that isn't of interest. They can always click-through if they want to know more. --Deke42 18:40, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
