What is FHM? RickK 01:48 8 Jul 2003 (UTC)

FHM is a men's magazine ("For Him Magazine") originally British and recently ported to the US. Imagine highbrow GQ meets lowbrow Maxim. I believe it's a Dennis Publishing magazine, but don't quote me on that.  ;)

I have added an article about the magazine to the 'Pedia. Pretty lame, IMHO - you're hardly going to bother reading FHM for the articles...--Robert Merkel 02:55 8 Jul 2003 (UTC)

Funny you don't post up who Cameron is dating on this page but list who Stephanie McMahon is with. Hers should not list it like this page doesn't list it.

This article reeks of non-NPOV writing. I'm doing a drastic slashing of all of these destructive adjectives. Pacian 17:23, 24 Apr 2004 (UTC)

[edit] 20 million club

sorry but she can't be second actress aswell as Julia Roberts as Reese Witherspoon IS currently the highest payed actress in hollywood at the moment so she should also be part of the "20 million club" not just those to cause if reese wasn't getting 20 million a film and julia and cameron was they would be first in the higest payed actress list not ReeseVeggiegirl (talk) 15:49, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] non-NPOV dispute

The layout of her notable quotes is a little over-dramatic (quotes all alone surrounded by a lot of space). Imbedding these quotes in their referring paragraphs would be a little less over-stated. Over-dramatising what people say is also a form of bias.

The George Bush statements seem unremarkable since Bush is widely unpopular right now and millions of people might be wearing such a T-shirt. But the Peru controversy (with her Maoist handbag) stands out as a more unique situation and is worthy of mention (even though it probably was an inadvertant gaffe on her part).

I think including her problems with OCD is fair since sharing celebrity problems can be inspirational or at least comforting to he general public (well this famous person has my problem too, and in the case of Diaz, look-- she got over it, so maybe there is hope for me).

The whole section about her remarks about the election are very POV. Come on, linking to the Free Republic? --The lorax 02:31, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Neutrality is irrelevant here - it's such a badly-written article from beginning to end that if I was to delete all the rubbish in it, it would be reduced to just a stub. If anyone wants to do just that, they have my support. Palefire 01:38, Jun 11, 2005 (UTC)

HELP: Could someone source the (Diaz) "was unaware that Peru was in bloody conflict" etc. I have found NOTHING where she says she was unaware, only that she apologized for the potential offence. Furthermore, since she has long been a world traveler, and this is (apparently)not her first visit to Peru, I would be shocked if she did not know ANYTHING about the decade of terrorsim suffered here in Peru (though, perhaps did not know details). If no one can find evidence that she did not know about the conflict, that statement really should be modified.

Also, I have updated the "Peru Issue" to more accuratly reflect her visit, on which she was wildly well received, including by Peruvian media from all political stripes. As of today, the issue had not even hit our media. I live in Peru, and for days we have seen countless stories and photos of here in an EXTREMELY positive light, and to pretend that teh "bag thing" was how Peruvians will remember here visit is so misleading it is actually in error.

[edit] Article thrown in

The following article seems to have been thrown into the opening section of the Diaz article by User:62.254.64.14 (Contribs). Maybe it can be incorporated, but not in that form.

A girl with a rough-and-tumble tomboy upbringing is signed up by a model agency after being spotted at a party aged 16.

She travels the world for five years, appearing in ads for Calvin Klein, Levi's and Coca-Cola, before a chance offer to audition for a movie.

She tries out for a minor role but, despite no acting experience, the director demands that she plays the lead female part.

The film is a global hit and the girl becomes one of the world's highest-paid actresses, enjoying fame and fortune beyond her wildest dreams.

It sounds like a far-fetched plot, but the Cameron Diaz tale is a real-life Hollywood success story.

Her first film was 1994's The Mask, opposite Jim Carrey, and she has gone on to appear in hits such as There's Something About Mary, Charlie's Angels and Shrek.

The daughter of a Cuban-American oil company foreman and an Anglo-German-Native American import broker, Diaz has said her childhood in Long Beach, California, was "very normal".

As a model, she had a string of exotic assignments but got fed up with her main work for clothing catalogues.

At 19, she agreed to model for Rutter, wearing fishnet stockings in a disused warehouse, because she wanted to present "images that are great images - rather than just a model who sells clothes".

She said she was "not ashamed" of the resulting shots. "I didn't think of them as pornographic. I didn't think of them as perverted," she told the court.

"My boobs looked good," she said. "At least I had that going for me."

Her model agency was in the same building as The Mask's casting director, who was looking for an unknown actress to play a nightclub singer in the zany comedy.

Initially reluctant, she auditioned to play a reporter but was called back a dozen times and grabbed her chance when offered the lead.

The film made more than $320m (£185m) worldwide and Diaz's performance marked her out as a hot new talent.

A wrist injury forced her to pull out of her next role, in the film version of computer game Mortal Kombat, and she opted for lower-profile movies including The Last Supper, Feeling Minnesota and She's the One.

She wanted "to get different scripts than the itsy bimbo parts I was being sent", she said.

Her reputation grew further alongside Julia Roberts in 1997 romantic comedy My Best Friend's Wedding before There's Something About Mary cemented her star status the following year.

Not only has she continued to shun "itsy bimbo parts", but she has also avoided being the only big name in blockbuster star vehicles - lessening the risk and pressure.

In Being John Malkovich, she played a frumpy pet shop worker and was the hard-nosed football team owner opposite Al Pacino in Any Given Sunday.

She capitalised on her glamorous appearance for Charlie's Angels - as a high-kicking secret agent rather than vacant blonde - sharing top billing with Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu.

She lent her voice to Princess Fiona in animated smash Shrek, played Tom Cruise's ex-girlfriend in Vanilla Sky and was seen scrapping with Leonardo DiCaprio in Gangs of New York.

Hollywood heavyweight Harvey Weinstein campaigned for her to get an Oscar nomination for Gangs of New York, but that honour has so far eluded her.

She has, though, been nominated for four Golden Globes and won critics' prizes.

She also regularly appears in more light-hearted polls - ranging from sexiest women in the world in men's magazines to best dance sequence at the MTV Movie Awards.

Keen not to lose sight of the down-to-earth tomboy, she beat 'N Sync and the Backstreet Boys in a Celebrity Burp-Off at the 2001 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards and proudly professes to have broken her nose four times.

But despite her childhood scrapes, she has struggled with the downsides of Hollywood fame.

She said she "felt violated" when Rutter tried to extort money from her for the topless photos and complained she has been "terrorised" by paparazzi.

Media interest has been heightened by relationships with fellow film stars Matt Dillon and Jared Leto and current partner, singer Justin Timberlake.

Eleven years after her screen debut, Diaz now sits alongside Julia Roberts atop the list of Hollywood's highest-paid female stars, commanding $20m (£11.5m) per film, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

She puts much of her success down to luck and fun, but hard work and savvy decisions have gone a long way to securing her status as both a serious actress and pin-up idol.

  • The article says she met Carlo de la Torre ( Carlo Della Torre) in Japan and began living with him. Torre is a pornographer and currently has a hard to load erotic website. I live in japan and have seen a few videos but not listing their nature here. She is a great actress and seems sensitive about her early years. Maybe the Carlo de la Torre part should be cut.-61.24.85.136 15:14, 28 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] She's No Angel

Shouldn't there be like a trivia section on Cameron Diaz's role in an S&M porn short called She's No Angel?

[edit] OCD

I know very little about Cameron Diaz. Does she have OCD? The article on OCD says she does. I happen to think the list of celebrity OCD suffers is highly questionable and I find it odd that her article would not list this disease if she admits to it or has been diagnosed. Robertbrockway 03:31, 15 November 2005 (UTC)

I changed the ref from the self-referencing one to one i found in Time Magazine, it was referred from an article in the NYT, however it doesn't explicity state her having OCD, just admitting to some of the symptoms. Maybe some more digging would bring up a better reference Foxhill 03:34, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Soccer

While I'm very reluctant to call football soccer, in this case, I changed it because I think there is merit. Cameron Diaz is to all intends an purposes an American therefore we should stick to what Americans call it, even if it is a silly name for it. However if someone could come up with evidence (e.g. a direct quote) which proves she calls football, football rather then soccer then there might be merit to change it back to football. For now, I suggest we leave it as soccer Nil Einne 01:44, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

Her favourite "soccer" team is Brentford - she's been to a lot of games and has been fascinated with the club since she attended a game at Griffin Park some years ago. See here.

I have made the change (in trivia), she is also listed as a famous fan in the Brentford FC article. Y control 16:21, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Virginity

Why was "citation needed" removed regarding her virginity? Who did she have sex with and how is this known?

Someone needs a life.

[edit] Her birthdate?

Either my math's off but if she was 21 when she starred in The Mask, wich was released in 1994, then how could she posibly be born in 1977? Wouldn't 1973 or 74 be more likeley?

[edit] Really part italian?

I don't believe she has italian origins, but I haven't proofs...

[edit] Wasn't she "Punk'd" once?

I seem to recall her being "Punk'd" once (of course I know for sure that her current boyfriend not only was "punk'd", he also "punk'd" someone else): can anyone add the relevant citation to this article's "Trivia" section if indeed she was? -- Jalabi99 03:00, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Great main photo

NOT it really crap it looks like She's a vampire bride.

[edit] Relationship with J. Timberlake

It's noted in the text that she is no longer with J. Timberlake. I'm not sure about that. Even in the text two dates appear as the end of the relationship, the first is "However, they split in January 2006" the second is "It has been reported that the couple is no longer together, and in fact haven't been since the beginning of December 2006". I just noticed it and is kinda standing out from the whole part of the text, so if anybody coul;d check it and change it [I didn't did it because I'm not 100% sure]..

edit: I [esdy_11192] wrote this, I wasn't logged... :)

edit #2: Somebody changed the date from jan. 2006 to jan. 2007 from that part of the text...

[edit] Early Life | Background

Who are her parents? What were their names? Is she Cuban-American and Anglo-German-Native-American? Where did her surname Díaz come from? --Noé Æ 07:07, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Diaz is a Spanish surname, not accented on the i btw. Many Diaz emigrated to Cuba from Spain since the 16 century, some of the first Spanish settlers of this family name was Bernal Diaz del Castillo whom travelled to Cuba in the early 1500s. When asked if she can speak Spanish she answered: "I know what you're saying, I really do. I just cannot respond to you back in Spanish. I can barely speak English properly. I didn't grow up in a Cuban or Latin community. I grew up in Southern California on the beach, basically. And I'm third generation. I'm of Cuban descent, but I'm American." - Petrovsky18 00:01, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] What kind of English...?

In October 2004, Diaz and Timberlake were in an altercation with ...

"Were in an altercation" ? What kind of English is that? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.16.50.230 (talk) 21:46, 14 March 2007 (UTC).

[edit] Her family?

Does she have any brothes or sisters? I think the article on Cameron Diaz should have a bit more about her family in it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 80.0.104.235 (talk) 20:04, 17 March 2007 (UTC).

[edit] High School

She went to high school with Snoop Dogg

[edit] Content

There is so much missing from this article I don't really know where to begin. I've never added anything to an actual article otherwise I would handle these suggestions my self. This needs at least a listing of all movies that she has been in. Missjessica254 19:23, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Agreed with the list of films she's been in. Almost every other actor has that and for a star as big as Diaz, it's surely essential. Michaelritchie200 11:09, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia is not a cristal ball

I've removed the rumor from the bottom of the personal life section because it's only a rumor and wikipedia is not a crystal ball

For almost the same reason, I've removed the link for the "Sex tape" because obviously, wikipedia is not a repository of links and beside, a legal action from Diaz part have been won over the tape original posting website.

[edit] Selected filmography

As per Wikipedia is not a collection of lists, I have reduced the "Filmography" section to just the films that have Wiki articles, and renamed it to "Selected filmography" ... people can click the IMDb External link at the end of the article to see the subject's full filmography with links to information about each of their films.

I have also used [[19xx in film|19xx]] tags for the years of the films, something that Some Other Editors do not appear to understand, since they seem to think that just linking [[19xx]] somehow has encyclopedic value.

Anonymous edits without comments may be reverted by anyone.

I am placing this boilerplate message on this Discussion page before I actually make the changes, so that I can just put "see Discussion page" in the edit summary, and hopefully not have my edit summarily reverted as vandalism by Some Other Editor.

[edit] Legalizing rape

"It should be noted that the legalization of rape was not actually an issue in the 2004 election."

Who actually thought it would be, she was obviously using this as an example on the inability to get an abourtion.

[edit] Mao Slogan/Peru Incident

We should all decide if the Mao Zedong Slogan/Peru Incident should be included in the article.

Here is one of the edits that was added then deleted (the Mao Slogan/Peru Incident appears to have been added and deleted in one form or another multiple times).

BEGINEDIT

On June 23, 2007 the Associated Press reported that Diaz had on June 22 toured publicly in Peru carrying a messenger bag emblazoned with a slogan locally considered to be supportive of the Shining Path Maoist-Communist terrorist organization. It is alledged that Diaz inadvertently offended Peruvians who suffered under decades of violence during the Shining Path's guerrilla insurgency.<(ref)>[(http://thetrack.bostonherald.com/moreTrack/view.bg?articleid=1007948) Diaz’s bag with Maoist slogan raises ire] Boston Herald June 23 2007<(/ref)>

ENDEDIT

Here, we can discuss the Mao Slogan/Peru Incident, if it should be added to the article, etc.

So everybody please vote now.

I will start.

Add. Diaz's display of Mao Zedong's slogan, in a nation terrorized by a Maoist guerrilla movement, constitutes an encyclopedic event.

The whole thing is undue weight. I'll remove it. Spartaz Humbug! 19:10, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Native American?

Is she Native American? If there's anything about it in the references (3, 4 and 5 as I write) I missed it. Aren't there rather strict definitions regarding this? Vashti (talk) 22:58, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

In this 1997 Sunday Mirror article ([1]), Diaz states that her mother's parents were Cherokee. But that may be an exaggeration. Maybe they both had Cherokee ancestry, mixed in with German-English. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 06:39, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Scandalous pics?

Wasn't there some scandal involving some semi-nude dominatrix type pics that she posed for early in her career? The photographer who had the rights to them sold them after she bacame a big star. No mention here. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.72.51.98 (talk) 15:50, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hispanic-American actress?

The opening paragraph underwent a slight change. Diaz, formerly an American actress, has now become a Hispanic-American actress. According to WP:MOSBIO, the opening paragraph should mention a person's nationality, not his ethnic background. WP:MOSBIO states: Ethnicity should generally not be emphasized in the opening unless it is relevant to the subject's notability. It can be discussed whether Diaz' ethnicity may be relevant to her notability and therefore be mentioned. Anyway, WP:MOSBIO does not state that nationality should or could be replaced by ethnicity. I suggest reverting to the earlier version of the opening paragraph. --Catgut (talk) 20:15, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

In the absence of counter-arguments I have corrected the opening paragraph. --Catgut (talk) 13:04, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
