In 2009, the Campeonato Brasileiro Série C, the third division of the Brazilian League, will be contested by 20 clubs, four of which will eventually qualify to the Campeonato Brasileiro Série B to be contested in 2010. The format in this year will be the same as Série A and Série B.

The 20 teams play in a round-robin format. The four best ranked teams at the end of the 38 matchdays will qualify to the 2010. The last 4 teams will be relegated to Serie D in 2010.
