[edit] History
The school opened in 1944 as a kindergarten to sixth grade school at the St. David's Parish Sunday School building at 4343 Radford Avenue in North Hollywood. It moved to its current site in the 1945-46 school year. [3] It gradually expanded to include junior high school, a girl's high school, and finally boys were accepted for all levels. "The Fourth R," a film made in the late 1940s explains the founding of the school based on a need for religion in the daily education of the school's students. The chapel program continues this tradition and the school's mission statement reflects the need for a curriculum of the heart, as well as, the mind. Since its founding, Campbell Hall School has had three headmasters: Rev. Alexander Campbell, the founder, Rev. Canon Thomas G. Clarke, who served in this position for 32 years and the current headmaster, Rev. Julian Bull.
[edit] Tuition
Tuition for the 2007-2008 school year is $18,440 (Elementary School; K-6)and $23,460 per year for Secondary School (grades 7-12). There is a small discount for families with multiple children enrolled of up to $600 per family. [4] Additional fees include a $2,000 fee for admission processing assessed only once in each family's career at Campbell Hall. Over $3,000,000 of Campbell Hall's $26,000,000 budget is dedicated to financial aid, with 20% of the enrolled students receiving grants averaging 50% of the cost of tuition.
[edit] Senior Seminars
Campbell Hall School offers a set of Senior Seminars to graduating students. These classes range from a nostalgic view of the glory days of sports, to more topical issues that examine current controversies in America and others that attempt to examine what constitutes "evil". Each class is discussion based.
[edit] Sports
Campbell Hall participates in a wide range of sports at all grade levels. Currently, under the stewardship of coach Terry Kelly, Campbell Hall boasts a highly ranked boys varsity basketball team that won the State of California Division IV Championship in 2005 with an undefeated, 32-0, record. During the 2006-2007 season, the Campbell Hall varsity team has been ranked as high as #3 in the nation, according to MaxPreps.com.
