[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Steveharper-outlook.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Steveharper-outlook.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Jkelly 02:41, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi. I'm afraid that we're going to need evidence for your claim that the copyright holder released all rights to the image. Jkelly 02:56, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
Normally we ask for an online or printed source for a claim. Alternatively, the copyright holder can send an email to permissions AT wikimedia.org to agree to the licensing. If the copyright holder (presumably the photographer), really is willing to donate their rights to the image, it would be great if we could get a scan of the original, rather than the newspaper reprint. I'm confused. Are you discussing the original newspaper, or the original photograph? It is who took the photograph that is the important point, unless they gave their rights to someone else. Jkelly 03:07, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
Let's see if I have got this. The photographer granted their rights to a youth group, who then published that photograph in their newspaper. The youth group is now willing to give up the rights. Do you have some way of contacting this youth group and asking them to send an email to permissions AT wikimedia.org? Jkelly 03:15, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
