[edit] Student Association of Columbia Union College
The Student Association of Columbia Union College is the largest student-led organization on the campus. The organization is also in the form of a student government. All students taking six college credit hours or more are automatic members. This student government is made of two branches: executive and legislative.
Purpose
Since its 1916 inception, the Student Association’s purpose is to provide input into the college’s decision making process; and to maintain communications concerning students’ interest and concerns in all of the academic departments, the administration, Board of Trustees, and the world.
Student Association Mission statement:
We, the Student Association, are the chosen eyes, ears, and voice for the students of Columbia Union College; serving our student body in academic, social, and spiritual matters and acting as a liaison between the student body and administration, college departments, and the global community.
We must aim to create awareness and a more proactive approach to leadership. With renewed vigor, we will facilitate an environment rooted in greater collaboration, cooperation, and communication. SA’s vision is to empower the student body and to turn our academic learning into practical experiences that will uplift and unify the campus community.
Executive Committee
The executive branch is the Executive Committee, which is chaired by the Student Association president (incumbent: Juan-Jose D. Garza). The members of this committee is the Executive Vice-president, Financial Vice-president, Social Vice-president, Religious Vice-president, Golden Memories (yearbook) Editor, Columbia Journal (newspaper) Editor, and the Executive Secretary. Each SA office receives one vote in the committee
There are two other executive branch positions. The Line-Up (student directory)editor and a public relations secretary. The 2007-2008 SA administration created four new SA positions for its academic year: Academic Director, Senior Archivist, Webmaster, and the Campus Outreach Coordinator. SA website
Student Senate
The legislative branch is the Student Senate.
Since 1954, the Student Senate has been the policy-making body of the Student Association. It is chaired by the Executive vice-president of the Student Association and made up of senators elected annually in the fall semester. There are four senators from each constituency: Halcyon Hall (women's dorm), Morrison Hall (men's dorm), Community (off-campus students) and four senators at large.
The Senate has the authority to approve Association budget and activities, all amendments to the Constitution, ratify appointments and nominations pursuant to the Constitution and Bylaws. The Senate shall discuss business conducted by the Assembly, Executive Committee, Campus Life Committee, the college president, and business presented by the senators. Also, the Senate can amend the Association Bylaws.
The term of senators is September 15 to September 14.

Legislation to Student Senate
The 54th Student Senate currently has the SA president's Student Governmental Reform Proposal which would add a judicial branch to the student government, emancipate the newspaper from being under the control of the SA president, and add the Academic Director position to the SA Constitution.
Proposal for college Student Life Committee
The SA President on April 9, 2008, will present to the Student Life Committee to create a governing body that is made of one representative from student clubs and organizations, sports teams, campus music groups, campus ministries, class officers, honors societies, and many other campus groups to join together to discuss and work to improve the social life on CUC's campus.
Proposal for college President's Cabinet
On March 25, 2008, the SA president submitted to the President's Cabinet through the college Vice-president for Student Life and Retention his proposal to move the SA Office's location, create a new student lounge, and brand new Aerobic exercising facility.
