[edit] Adding dates

Well, after spending some no-brainer minutes here, I noticed something afoot... I don't think that "talking like a pirate day" is recognized as a national holiday in any country. I am not inclined to delete it right off, but it may spawn further silliness, if we are to stick to only nationally recognized holidays. For now, since this page is in its infancy, I'll leave it. It's fun and I don't really see the harm. AARGH! GuardianZ 16:59, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

  • While I do agree that the calendar should not be filled with useless holidays, International Talk Like a Pirate day is included in the wikipedia and is linked. I believe if we limit the calendar to national holidays or those with a page on the site, we will keep out a number of the more questionable holidays.--Fresh 19:35, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Automatic highlighting of the current day

There's got to be a way to move that pale blue background thing automatically. Let's think. --Uncle Ed 02:08, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

*style="background: #D5E3F2" {{switch|{{CURRENTDAY}}|case: 13=style="background: #D5E3F2" }} See: {{tl|blueIfDay|13}}

Schweiwikist replies: The current version of {{BlueIfDay}} does the job but not on a 365- or 366-day basis. {{BlueIfDay}} only has to count to 31.
It is possible to "preload" the cells for every future calendar day with: {{BlueIfDay|0}} — and then enter the real values around the first of each month, zeroing out the previous month’s values (with a search-and-manual replace). I couldn’t come up with a full-year (DOY: 1 thru 365 or 0101 thru 1231) formula that worked.  Schweiwikist   (talk)  00:20, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Multi-faith dates

Religiously observing NPOV at all times - it seems reasonable that some dates (religious festivals) are more important than others in how other parties notice them and work around them. I see that Government employers in the UK now have a multi-faith calendar of dates to avoid in scheduling job interviews Office of the Commissioner of Public Appointments So I'm just wondering whether there could be a Wiki way to build up practical information like that? --Mereda 15:45, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

We're trying to include as many credible holidays as possible - including religious ones. --Munchkinguy 22:34, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

Also, you may want to check out Religion Wiki's Religion Calendar. --Munchkinguy 00:15, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
