How did Calais get its name? Where did the name come from? Calais, the French port, is the obvious reference, but why? Did some early settler come from Calais, France?

[edit] adding images and other recent edits

Hi and thanks for helping make the Calais, Vermont page more useful and accurate. Please make sure you're acquainted with some of the Wikipedia guidelines to make sure that the additions you make are in line with standard practice. Information should be verifiable, so please cite sources when addding new information. The image of the people and the official snowman needs to be verifiable as well, a cite to some sort of newspaper article or even an authoritative website would be fine. Here are some more guildelines for working with images at Wikipedia. Thanks for helping make Wikipedia better. Jessamyn 02:18, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

I agree that it is a great article. Still needs references though. Where did the original author come up with all that detail?Student7 03:22, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] notable residents

Hi! I've been going through VT towns and adding notable residents lists. It's great that there was already one for Calais, but try to make sure that the people added truly are notable, i.e. have a wikipedia page (or should have one! you could write one!). Also, please add links to your sources so the information can be verified. I took out Livingston because the source said he was born and lived elsewhere. If that's wrong, feel free to change it back but just add a source that states it for sure. h0n0r 1 March 2006

[edit] Book

Hello. I'm currently reading a book on Calais, actually. I found it lying around my house. It's called "Forever Calais: A History of Calais, Vermont", by Weston A. Cate, in 1999 by the Calais Historical Society. As soon as I'm done reading the book, I will post some findings. Twitchel 22:07, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Twitchel
