There is a small, but significant Taiwan presence in Shenyang. The Yonghe doujiang shop, and California Beef Noodle King USA, are chains with locations all over the city, and indeed China. The California Beef Noodle King is especially interesting. PRC Chinese asked me all the time how it compared with 'authentic' California beef noodles. I almost didn't have the heart to tell them that there is no such chain in the USA. It is entirely the creation of an Taiwanese entrepreneur by the name of Mr. Lee. Funny thing is, there are no branches in Taiwan either. |
