Talk:Café Scientifique

[edit] The comprehensive list?

If someone would like to determine the exact number of active cafés, I recommend the following google searches: [1] for british council organised ones, and [2] for US, Canada, possibly Australia, and elsewhere. I also have a suspicion that the New Scientist has listings of these in its print edition.

I've taken out from the article the following list that I verified on the web:

such as Australia, Canada and the United States (e.g. Palo Alto, Colorado, San Diego, Boston, Pittsburgh, Muskegon (MI); Tokyo, Singapore, Buenos Aires; Slovenia).

IIRC Singapore, Buenos Aires and Slovenia were British Council ones. - Samsara 23:46, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Royal Society (of Edinburgh or otherwise...)

Since Royal Society events are not organised by lay people, they are not really within the scope of this article. Thanks for keeping them out.

Any venture that is at organised by lay people in at least some localities, and includes open discussion as well as a friendly atmosphere, especially when held in a cafe or bar, qualifies. Please note that a number of organisations have adopted the term, Cafe Scientifique, or Science Cafe, and these therefore need to be included in this article even though they do not fulfill the criteria (and no, I don't believe these are written down anywhere). 82.71.48.158 10:44, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
