[edit] Summary
Arms of the City and South London Railway, the world's first deep tube railway and first major electric railway opened in London in 1890. The railway is now part of the London Underground's Northern Line.
The arms incorporate, the arms of the City of London (bottom left) and the Southwark Cross (bottom right) representing the two parts of the city connected by the railway. The wavy bars represent the River Thames under which the railway tunnelled and the bridge represents London Bridge, close to which the tunnels ran.
