Wirral's Buzz is an Independent Local Radio station broadcasting to the Wirral Peninsula, sharing its facilities with Marcher Sound and Classic Gold Marcher, in Gwersyllt, Wrexham [2]. The station, owned by Global Radio (originally by Marcher Radio Group), broadcasts a mix of popular music and presenter chat. Prior to 1999, it was known as MFM 97.1. As with other stations using the former GWR Group's The Mix brand, Buzz also broadcasts some networked shows. Its transmitter is on top of Storeton Heath near Birkenhead and although it officially broadcasts to Wirral, it can be received as far east as Warrington and as far west as Ruthin in the Marcher Sound region.
In November 2005 it was announced that GCap's former Marcher Radio Group stations, including Buzz, were to be sold. This was due to the fact that they were outside of the company's primary target area, however in 2006 GCap decided to call off the sales. Since then it has continued to share a number of shows with nearby Marcher Sound, and its mix of networked shows that the station broadcasts every evening from 7pm-1am has started to include some shows from the Century lineup such as Hairbrush Divas. Century's former owner Capital Radio merged with Buzz's former owner GWR last year to form GCap Media. [3].
Depending on the listeners location, Buzz can occasionally cross over with radio station Rock FM.
