Bushwick Leaders' High School for Academic Excellence, (BLHS) is a small New York City Public High School located in Bushwick, Brooklyn.

The school was opened in 2002 serving only 9th graders and starting with fewer than 100 students. Now, Bushwick Leaders' is proudly serving 9th through 12th graders with more than 400 students on the school's roster. Bushwick Leaders original location was 271 Melrose Street.

The creator and principal of Bushwick Leaders is Ms. Catherine Reilly.

[edit] Criteria for graduation

To graduate from Bushwick Leaders' High school a student needs 44 credits meaning a student usually attends for 4 years.

  • Eight terms (four years) of English
  • Seven terms (3 1/2 years) of Physical Education
  • Six terms (Three years) of Math
  • One term of Health
  • Two terms of American History
  • Two terms of Art
  • Two terms of foreign language
  • Six terms of Science
  • Two years (four terms) of Global History
  • One year (two terms) of art
  • One term of an elective
  • There's grades 9-12. 2007 was there first year of graduation.

[edit] Advance Placement (AP) and Honors

Several AP courses can be taken at Bushwick Leaders' such as AP Spanish, AP Statistics, and AP Chemistry. AP also gives a student a college credit. Honors classes can be taken also.

[edit] Extra curricular activities and sports

The school doesn't have any sport teams yet, but is pushing to start a baseball team, etc.

[edit] Dress code

The school goes by a dress code and expects students to follow it. Males can wear a light blue or white polo that says BLHS (the school's initials) with black slacks. Sneakers can be worn but must be black-on-black, and the same is true for boots and shoes. Females also must wear polos the in the same colors (light blue and white) and also must wear black slacks or long skirts. No flipflops are allowed.

No electronic devices allowed in the school building. No hats, durags, bandanas or gang beads allowed in the building. No drugs, liquor, etc. No weapons, etc.

[edit] Transportation

You can get to the school by taking the B60 or B38 buses to Dekalb Avenue or by taking the M Train to Central Avenue or the J Train to Koscuizko Street.
