Jeff, this is absolutely beautiful! A couple of things,

would you make the legs less obvious, you could even make the bird sitting, but in the original you can't really see them at all.
would you make the text white on the blue background, for contrast?
can you try a version without the black bordering? I don't think it needs it and would like to see if it can do without the black separations.
