Burton M. Field is Commander, 332d Air Expeditionary Wing, Balad Air Base, Iraq.

He commands more than 8,500 Airmen at Balad AB, Kirkuk Regional Air Base, Sather AB, Al Asad Airfield, Contingency Operations Base Speicher and Ali Base, as well as at more than 50 forward-operating bases around Iraq. The 332nd AEW is the only Air Force wing based in Iraq and is engaged in combat around the clock. The wing comprises F-16 Fighting Falcons, C-130 Hercules, A-10 Thunderbolt IIs, MQ-1B Predator UAVs and HH-60 Pave Hawks. Located about 40 miles north Baghdad, Balad AB is home to the busiest single-runway operation in the Department of Defense. The wing's hospital is the busiest trauma center in the world and serves as the coalition medical hub for all of Iraq.

He has been selected for promotion to major general and reassignment as Commander, Air Force District of Washington, Andrews Air Force Base, Md.

General Field was commissioned in 1979 after graduating from the United States Air Force Academy. He has commanded the 421st Fighter Squadron at Hill Air Force Base, Utah; the USAF Weapons School at Nellis AFB, Nev.; and the 8th Fighter Wing at Kunsan Air Base, South Korea. The general has also served on two major command staffs as well as the Joint Staff. Prior to assuming his current position, he was Commander, 1st Fighter Wing, Langley AFB, Va.

General Field is a command pilot with more than 3,200 flying hours in the F-16, and he is a qualified F-22A pilot.
