Burgau is a town in the district of Günzburg in Swabia, Bavaria. Burgau lies on the river Mindel, and has a population of about 10,000.

The "Herren von Burguo" are first mentioned in documents of the year 1147. Burgau ruled the whole region and was raised to the level of a margraviate in 1212. In 1301 Burgau became an exclave of Austria. When the Holy Roman Empire ceased to exist in 1806, the margraviate was dissolved and the region was annexed by Bavaria.
