Building services engineering

Building services engineering is the engineering of the internal environment and environmental impact of a building. It includes mechanical engineering and electrical engineering, including:
- energy supply - gas , electricity and renewable sources
- heating and air conditioning (HVAC)
- water , drainage and plumbing
- natural and artificial lighting, and building facades
- escalators and lifts
- ventilation and refrigeration
- communication lines, telephones and IT networks (ICT)
- security and alarm systems
- fire detection and protection
It may influence the architecture of a building and is a significant influence on the sustainability and energy demand of a building.
