[edit] A prediction that his teachings would disappear?

The Buddha did not predict his teachings would "disappear" after 500 years. In fact in the Diamond Sutra one of the Buddha's disciples was concerned whether in 500 years anyone would still remember and recite his teachings. and the Buddha responded that his teachings will always be remembered by someone and some good would always come from them. He did however say that the world would become more wicked —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 74.139.87.75 (talk) 01:40, 4 May 2007 (UTC).

-The Buddha just mentioned that the Dharma would dissapper after 5000 years, but after the formation of the Bhikkuni Order, the Buddha mentioned that the Dharma would disappear 500 years earlier.

[edit] Middle Ages?

Why does this article link to the article on "Middle Ages"? The Middle Ages article discusses the medieval period in Europe which has nothing to do with Buddhism or the development of Buddhist eschatological theories. Perhaps this should be changed to "the 5th century," i.e., the time of Buddhaghosa? Djbuddha 00:01, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] What is the scriptual evidence?

I feel this article would only be proper if it has the scriptual evidence of the prediction. That is, in which sutta/sutra did Sakyamuni Buddha allegedly made this prediction? 203.53.30.10 (talk) 07:29, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
