BT Archives
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
BT Archives is an archive preserving the documentary heritage of BT and its public sector predecessors.
The records include minutes, subject files, photographs, film and advertising material that tell the story of telecommunications in the UK and from the UK to overseas, from the formation of the private telegraph and telephone companies in the nineteenth century to the present day.
It is a major resource for genealogy and family history as it contains a near-complete set of United Kingdom telephone directories from the first one in 1880.
It is based in lower levels of the Holborn Telephone Exchange in the Holborn area of central London and is open to public researchers twice a week for free; electronic storage of records progresses, with the recent release of early telephone books in this format.
