Founded in 1873 as King, Phillips & Stewart, it is one of the 35 largest law firms in the world. Its partners include former US Senators Jack Danforth and Alan Dixon, former New York Mayor Ed Koch and Charles Burson, former Attorney General of Indiana and Tennessee and former Counsel to Vice-President Al Gore. The firm was among the first to conduct substantial business in the Middle East (1976) and has been licensed in Shanghai since the mid 1990s.
The chairman of the firm is Don G. Lents, who works from the St. Louis office.[citation needed]
