I've just been smoothing out the grammar & style of the article, and I've hit a slight snag. In "His Explorations" reference is made to a "fine navigable channel"; is this meant to refer to a channel that is fine (narrow) but navigable, or to a channel that is finely navigable (navigable with difficulty), or (colloqially) to a good and navigable channel?
