Artist Bruce Shingledecker (August 9, 1945 - January 8, 2007) was born in in Defiance, Ohio and later lived in Gustavus, Alaska [1][2]. Best known for his acrylic paintings of Alaskan wildlife from bears to sea lions, some of Shingledecker's original paintings feature glacial silt for texture[3]. In 2008 his family donated two of his signed, framed prints to Defiance College and two to the Defiance Public Library [4]. The National Wildlife Federation used "The Sky is Falling" ([1]) on a greeting card [5].
In addition to painting, Shingledecker was also a composer, linguist, and musician. Before moving to Alaska, Shingledecker graduated from the Chicago Academy of Art, was a member of the Peace Corps, and taught English in Japan [6][7].
