Bromic acid, HBrO3, is a bromine oxoacid. Its salts, the bromates, are powerful oxidizing agents in the solid state, much like the chlorates, and are used in specialty pyrotechnical mixtures. Bromic acid is a key reagent in the well-known Belousov-Zhabotinsky oscillating reaction. Bromic acid is composed of 62% bromine, 1% hydrogen, and 37% oxygen, by weight.
