Brisbane Philharmonic Orchestra

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Brisbane Philharmonic Orchestra is a community orchestra based in Brisbane, Australia. The orchestra consists of over 70 players of all ages and professions, who enjoy playing a wide variety of orchestral works.

The orchestra was formed in 1999 with only 18 musicians and has steadily grown in membership since then.

It is administered by an executive committee elected each year. The current President is Colin Hardcastle, and the Musical Director is Philip Davis. The ensemble is founded on principles of active participation whereby members are involved voluntarily in all facets of the organisation such as concert production, marketing, promotion, ticket sales, legal issues, and even rehearsal-break canteen.

The orchestra performs several concerts each year at venues including the Brisbane City Hall, the Queensland Performing Arts Centre, St John's Cathedral, St Stephen's Cathedral, the Old Museum Building, Brisbane, and in popular music festivals around Brisbane and Queensland.
